Partners and Donors Porirua Youth Awards

Past Patron - Hekia Parata

In 2010 Ms Parata fundraised more than $35,000 to recognise and reward young people from Porirua who are excelling in a range of disciplines, including art and culture, education, and sport. Ms Parata established the Porirua Youth Awards in collaboration with the Partners Porirua and the Porirua Foundation, " I established the Awards in 2010 to acknowledge talented young people, who are excelling in art and culture, education, environment, community and sport and to give them an opportunity to develop their potential. I am absolutely delighted by the number of outstanding youth we have in our region and look forward to meeting our next lot of talented and ambitious Porirua Youth Award winners"

Porirua Foundation - Chris Kirk-Burnnand, Chair
Porirua Foundation is one of eight community Trusts throughout New Zealand. Our common focus is to build community generosity though bequest funding or other funding mechanisms that have a positive outcome for differing community groups. In essence we aim to match donors with community groups or to be proactive in building capacity to meet defined community needs that we have identified.
Our first funding project has been the Porirua Performing Arts Threatre and that is progressing well.
The Porirua Youth Awards is the second project we are facilitating. It is based upon the Johnsonville Youth Grants which has successfully operated in the Johnsonville region since 1987. Managed by Partners Porirua it is a true partnership that will bring long term benefits to youth achievers within Porirua.

Thanks to the donations and contributions of our community we are able to celebrate the success of Porirua’s outstanding young achievers with the Porirua Youth Awards. I Look forward to seeing these young people as our future leaders contributing to community, to economic growth and to the positive reputation of Porirua.”
